55 Years Young
Introduction
When did 55 become old? I'm wondering if this is a question you've asked yourself lately. Maybe it's something you've noticed in your friends and family members, or maybe it's something someone else has said. In any case, the answer is probably not what you think it is.
However, if you search 55 years and over, on Google it's amazing, you are literally inundated with retirement solutions for living, finance, romance and even "walking football" It really is incredibly interesting, that this is the age group people genuinely seem to have forgotten about, however it is also the age group most marketing is geared towards...
who says 55 is old?
Well, it depends on the context and the person who is saying it. For example, someone might say “55 years old is old” because they are trying to get you to retire or move into assisted living. Or someone might say “55 years old isn’t that old” because they want you around for a lot longer than that!
Why does it matter?
It matters because if we believe something about ourselves then our actions will reflect how we feel about ourselves (and others). So if we think of ourselves as being old then we will act like an older person would act - maybe slowing down or doing less physical activity; but if we think of ourselves as just being, then our bodies will function at a younger age too - keeping up with activities in life and getting involved in new things!
retirement is not an option for many of us
You might think retirement is a good thing. It's the end goal, right? But what if you aren't ready to be done working yet? What if your job provides you with more than just income—it gives you purpose, it helps keep your mind sharp, and it keeps your body moving? Most people are still incredibly productive. They're taking on new responsibilities at work and managing their families like they did decades earlier. Why shouldn't we expect this from ourselves as well?
Here are some reasons working longer can benefit us:
It gives us time to save for our future. The longer we work now, the fewer financial worries we'll have later in life (and yes—retirement counts as "later").
It helps keep us physically active. As we age, getting up and going to work each morning can help us stay healthy enough to live another decade or two beyond what would otherwise be considered "old."
It keeps our minds sharp by keeping us mentally engaged through daily interactions with colleagues as well as solving challenging problems every day at work (and maybe even learning some new things along the way!).
Hey maybe even starting a new business, or having a direction change!
still have our health, our minds, and the ability to work
There are many reasons why you should embrace the optimism and reality of this time of life.
You still have your health and your mind. You may think that as you age, these things will start to deteriorate. However, this is not usually the case! As long as you are healthy and active, your body and mind can continue to grow and develop throughout life.
You still have the ability to work. As we get older, it can be easy to think that our bodies aren’t able to do certain things anymore—but this isn’t necessarily true! Many people over 60 go on long hikes each year; some even climb mountains in their 70s! And there are plenty of jobs out there that require physical strength but don’t require much movement (for example: working behind a desk). If we want something more active though then there are also plenty of options available such as volunteering at an animal shelter or helping out at local events like sports tournaments etc..
looking forward to trying new things!
You are entering an exciting phase of your life! You have learned so much, gained so many experiences and are now ready to try new things that will challenge you and allow you to grow in ways you never thought possible.
It's not too late, think about what it is that makes you happy. Do some soul searching: What kinds of things would make me feel fulfilled?
The next chapter of your life will be filled with opportunities for new friendships (and perhaps even romance) as well as more freedom than ever before. You have time on your side—no need for rushing into anything just yet!
55 is a good age - we are free to do whatever we want
55 is a good age - we are free to do whatever we want.
55 is not old.
55 is the new 40, 30 and 20 years old.
55 is the new 10 years old as well.
Conclusion
We have a lot of life left to live, so why not make the most of it? I’m not saying that retirement is bad - far from it! But there are many people out there who still want to work and contribute in some way or another. If you know someone who might be feeling stuck in their job or bored with life, ask them how they would feel about making a change! It could be just what they need!
